  • Category
The Category determines the transmission frequency and throughput of the cable / connector. There are 6 variations currently:
    • Category 3 - Introduced in the early 90s, uses a single pair of copper wires, still used in two-line phone configurations. Speeds up to 10Mbps.
    • Category 5 - Superseded Cat 5 in early 2000s for data transmission, uses two pairs of copper wire. Speeds up to 100Mbps.
    • Category 5e - Similar to Cat5 in appearance, uses four pairs of copper wire which are twisted more tightly and shielded to eliminate interference. Speeds up to 1Gbps.
    • Category 6 - Usually used for back-end networking. Speeds up to 10Gbps.
    • Category 6e - An enhanced version of Cat6, Cat6e has better shielding and a higher operating frequency of 750MHz. Speeds of up to 100Gbps.
We currently offer Category 3 connectors.
  • Mount type options
Termination method of soldering connector onto PCB.
  • PCB orientation options
Defines the orientation which a connector sits on the PCB. Vertical (straight) is 90° to the PCB, right angle (horizontal) is 180° to the PCB.
  • Number of positions
The maximum number of potential contacts. The position may not have a contact dependant on whether the position is loaded.
  • Positions loaded
The number of positions that have a contact available. Positions may be empty dependant on application requirements.
  • Shielding
Shielding offers protection from EMI interference.
  • Panel Stop
Prevents the connector moving through the panel.
  • Latch position
The position of the latch, normally at the top or the bottom
